An RFQ (Request for Quotation) is what you send a mill to get an accurate price and lead time. A clear, complete RFQ gets a faster, more accurate response; a vague one leads to back-and-forth questions or a quote with assumptions baked in.
What to Include in an RFQ
At minimum, a mill needs the following to quote accurately:
- Product type: fabric by the metre, or made-up goods (garments, linen, etc.)?
- Delivery timeline: when you need the goods, and any milestone dates.
- Quantity: total order size, and MOQ flexibility if you’re unsure yet.
- Specification: fibre content, GSM (weight), width, colour and finish.
- Destination: shipping location, for accurate lead-time and logistics planning.
Helpful Extras
If you have them, a swatch or reference sample, a technical spec sheet, or examples of similar products all help a mill quote more precisely. If any of this isn’t ready yet, it’s fine to send the RFQ with “TBC” against those fields and follow up once you have them.
